Whew! This Resurrection Sunday has been so busy. I feel like I haven’t had the time to do much writing, but this scripture has been on my mind pretty much all day.
When God rose, He went to go show Himself to His disciples. Scripture tells us that the disciples never really understood what God was saying when He said that He would be raised from the dead on the third day. So when He did indeed, rise, they were in unbelief that the words He had spoken to them a time before, had actually come to pass, and there He was, Jesus, standing before them in the flesh.
What I love about this, is that even though the disciples did not fully understand or believe what God was saying to them, Jesus still went to show Himself in all His glory, to the disciples. They had gone on about their lives, having lived and experienced this great God, they returned back to life as usual, then, He showed himself. It was then that they became overjoyed to see Him (John 20:20).
The first thing that I take from this is the fact that we are able to understand absolutely nothing without God giving us wisdom to do so. It is the Holy Spirit that gives us the wisdom and knowledge that we need. Next, when I feel my faith getting weak, I have to remember that the resurrection of Jesus, was the fulfillment of a purpose, as well as the beginning of an assignment.
In those assignments, there are some moments when we know that God is leading us in our purpose, and in strength, so its easy to follow. But what about when we are unsure bout what it is that God is telling us to do. What about when patience is running low, and we are unwilling to wait on the Lord to come and show us His great power. Jesus charged us with this assignment, He said “Go forth making disciples of the nations and baptizing them in the name of Jesus” Matthew 28:19.
Every assignment that God is giving you, is for the purpose and glory of the kingdom. Baptism symbolizes your acknowledgement and commitment to follow Jesus. To perform the work for the kingdom that He is putting before us. When we are brought up from the water after being submerged (dying to our sins), it signifies new birth into a living hope through Christ. When Jesus came back to show himself to the disciples, He passed the baton for us to do His work here on earth. I have a secret for you though, this race is fixed. You need only run and stay in your lane!
When I make the resurrection of Jesus personal to me, He rose because He had a purpose for me. Even when I don’t have enough wisdom to pursue, even when my faith is lacking, He is willing to come back and show himself to me. There may be some things that the Lord is telling us to do or telling us things that will happen, and we may not fully understand it. But just as Jesus had to show Himself to the disciples for them to fully understand, do you know that He is willing to show you just who He is.
Just as when Jesus was a child sitting in the temple when He told His parents that He had to be about His Fathers business, I know that I am only here for a short time, and in that time, I know that I need to be about my Fathers business. I am purposed to live in the love and mercy that He exemplified for me. What has God purposed you with?
It is so important to remember that God knows everything about us. He knew all of this when He went to the cross. Our shortcomings, our sins, our areas of weakness, God knew this all a still went to the cross for you and I. And sometimes I completely understand that it is hard for some to grasp on to that concept, but this is why He sent the Spirit to accompany us. You cannot grasp this concept in your heart without Him. He sent Him to lead and guide us so that we can continue the finished work of the resurrection. Grace, hope faith, mercy and love is what I see in the resurrection. Let your life exemplify the purpose of it thereof.
